Ways to improve spoken english

English is that one language that is both tough and easy simultaneously, depending upon person to person. If you get proper training in this language like training in any other language, for instance, French or Spanish, learning would be easier for anybody. Be it you, the newer generation, or be it our parents, learning anything doesn't count age. 'Age is just a number'; therefore, there is no age of learning anything. The following are a few common steps that are observed in the process of learning spoken English.

Improve English speaking is a significant concern these days, be it a language student or any other student.

  1. No magic pill can help you in speaking fluently. Speak as much as you can. Go out of your comfort zone and converse in English with different people, such as a teacher, friend, colleagues, Taxi driver, or a shopkeeper. It would be best if you had a daily conversation in English for speaking well.
  2. Reciprocate and introspect once you are done conversing. Look at where you need improvement, how it went, the amount of understanding, the range of comfort, or the words you were unknown. It will help you boost confidence while speaking, which will eventually bring fluency in Basic English speaking.
  3. Listen to how others are speaking, or watch movies; listen to podcasts, and songs. Write down the words, slangs, or synonyms and look at the meaning of the words you are mostly unaware of mostly. Write them down and use them while you are practicing. You can even take up a practical course in spoken English.
  4. Before going anywhere, google the words and synonyms for that particular situation. For instance, if you visit a dentist, check for terms used for the problem you have. Similarly, search for words before going to a restaurant, family function, or a mall. This way, you will not fall short of expressions, ultimately leading to more confidence in spoken English conversation.
  5. It is bizarre to listen to our voice on a tape, but this is important to know the amount of improvement we are having while speaking. Therefore, record and listen to your voice. It will help you in understanding the tone while you are nervous or know if you are fumbling. Please take it to a native speaker, teacher, or friend who speaks English fluently or just for a free English Speaking course and ask them for feedback.
  6. Search for phrases instead of words. It will help you in speaking. For instance, we always hear that instead of saying 'Hi! How are you?’ speak 'Hello dude! How're you doing?'

Other than the steps mentioned above, make sure to enjoy and have fun. Please do not take it as a burden.

Repeat these 7 easy steps everyday to improve your spoken English

  1. Learn 5 new words Everyday

Vocabulary plays an important part in learning to read. Beginning readers must use the words they hear orally to make sense of the words they see in print. Kids who hear more words spoken at home learn more words and enter school with better vocabularies. This larger vocabulary pays off exponentially as a child progresses through school.

Vocabulary is key to reading comprehension. Readers cannot understand what they are reading without knowing what most of the words mean. As children learn to read more advanced texts, they must learn the meaning of new words that are not part of their oral vocabulary.

The scientific research on vocabulary instruction reveals that most vocabulary is learned indirectly and that some vocabulary must be taught directly. Thus, research supports using a combination of both indirect and direct approaches.

Learning 5 words a day will definitely help you increase your words bank and will in turn help with your spoken English.

You can use our English test to improve your vocabulary.

You can also use our Learning Section to watch videos carefully crafted to improve your understanding on words including Noun, Pronoun, Verb, Adverb, Adjectives, Antonyms and Synonyms etc.

  2. Solve a Crossword

Doing crossword puzzles changes the way you look at words. So you may find that you learn different levels of meaning for the same word. Also, if you use the dictionary to solve puzzles, you may look up several words to see if they fit. And, if you remember any of them then, of course, you have increased your vocabulary.

So, it can help improve your vocabulary.

Also, Crossword puzzle is a good exercise to improve the left side functioning of the brain. When words are given and you have to put it in the crossword puzzle, it will improve your vocabulary provided you see the meaning of the new words in the dictionary. For improving vocabulary you will have to read more books and increase the number of new words every day. This will give good improvement.you should use all new words in your verbal as well as written communications to improve vocabulary.

  3. Solve 10 grammar related questions

When we learn English, we run into a lot of confusing things when it comes to grammar. Often we don’t understand certain things that native English speakers say because they simply don’t exist in our native language.

Whether you're a native English speaker or an English language learner, English grammar can be tricky to master.

No matter how long you've been writing, you can also freshen up your grammar skills. Thankfully, there are numerous sites online that exist purely to help you write and speak correctly.

  4. Read an Article of English Newspaper and Record it

This is one of my favorite ways to improve spoken english. Read an Article of an English Newspaper or website loud and clear. While you read, please record a video and watch it several times before you get comfortable with your own voice. Look out for improvement areas and practice that next day when you are reading out another article.

Continuous reading for a few days will not only boost your confidence but you will improve your pronunciation quite a bit in this process.

A regular reading habit will definitely improve your spoken english as well.

  5. Prepare a presentation on any topic and speak in front of a mirror

How many times have you seen the best of the leaders in the industry fail to make an impression with their presentation skills! It needs a little practice and a lot of confidence to be able to speak in front of the public.

Prepare a presentation on any topic of your choice. Stand in front of a mirror and deliver your presentation. Record it as you present and once again similar to the previous step, watch it a few times and make modifications to your presentation as required.

With time you would have got the confidence to speak in front of the public as well and you would have improved your english quite a lot.

  6. Watch an english movie

This is the fun part of this spoken english exercise. What else do you need, you get to improve your spoken english and accent while you enjoy your favourite movie.

Watching a movie will improve your vocabulary, grammar, accent and your fluency in english. At the same time you will also learn the culture from other countries.

  7. Form a close group with similar mindset to practice

Form a group with your friends who are at a similar level to you and want to improve their english. Fix a time of day when you will converse only in English.

Regular practice will help you make your speaking ability perfect and will give you the much needed confidence.
