Learn Class 5 Math - Fractions and Decimals

Fraction and Decimal both are equally important in Mathematics. Apart from helping you get good marks in academics, its concepts are also useful in regular life.

For example, a Fraction is something where a whole part number divides a numerical value. However, if we see decimals, then decimals normally give the most concise form of the fractional value.

Fraction

A Fraction is a numerical quantity that defines the part of the whole. The Fraction can be any section or portion of the quantity out of the whole; the whole can be any specific value, number or thing.

Let's get to know the concept of Fraction with the help of an example.

Suppose you have a pizza and you have to share it with your family and friends. There are overall five people, and the pizza has four slices. In this situation, the Fraction will be something 4/5. So five is denoted as the people, and pizza slices denote four.

If you compare Fraction with your daily life, it will become more lenient for you to get the concept of Fraction.

Decimal

In Mathematics, the decimal number can be anything whose whole part of the number and the fractional part of the number is separated by the point.

The point (.) with which the numbers are separated is known as the Decimal point. Thus, 20.5 is a decimal number where 20 are described as the whole number part, and five is described as the fractional number part.
