Learn Class 5 Math - Perimeter of Various Shapes & Area of Rectangle and Square

The "Perimeter" of a shape is referred to a distance that is near to it. If you want to calculate the Perimeter of a specific shape, it is required to add the length of all the sides.

The "area" of a shape is the volume of square units that it covers. E.g., the size of the surface area of a shape.

Also, the area of a shape is calculated when we multiply its length by its width. Therefore, it is measured in terms of "Sq. Units." For, e.g., the square area, which is 1 meter on every side, is 1 meter x 1 meter = 1 Sq. Meter or m2.

Apart from this, its square unit consists of millimetres squared (mm2) and centimetres squared (cm2).

Several shapes follow simple area formulae:

  • The area of a triangle = 1/2 x base x height
  • The area of a rectangle = base x height
  • The area of a parallelogram = base × height

The 'volume' of a shape is termed as the number of cubic units that it occupies, i.e. the amount of 3D space, which the shape occupies.
