Learn Class 5 Math - Symmetry

Do you know how you can get the same shape of an object by separating or moving it from the middle? This is where the fundamentals of Symmetry play an incredible role.

Every student must understand the concept of Geometry. To learn more about Symmetry, keep on reading.

Symmetry - Overview

Symmetry implies the first half of the object is identical to the second half of the object when rotated, flipped or moved. When any object has Asymmetry, we call it Asymmetrical.

If any object is not having Symmetry, it is called Asymmetrical. Symmetry is an important part of the geometrical portion of Mathematics.

Symmetry - Examples

Let us understand the concept of Symmetry with the help of an example.

When you are given A4 size paper and you are told to cut the paper from the middle, then what you do is to fold the paper and cut from the middle. Accordingly, you get the same shape of paper on both sides.

We call Symmetry when one part of the shape is the same as the other part of the paper.

Types of Symmetry

Symmetry can be categorized into four types:

  • Translational Symmetry
  • Rotational Symmetry
  • Reflexive Symmetry
  • Glide Symmetry
