Learn Class 10 Math - Probability

The term probability refers to the measurement of the degree of certainty concerning the event's occurrence. And the operation that produces the set outcomes is considered as the term experiment.

To get the probability there is a set formula that we have to apply and after which we will get our required answer.

Event’s probability

  • The probability of an event refers to the number of outcomes of the favourable items to the total number of possible outcomes.
  • The probability range only lies from 0-1. As it is always less than 1.
  • P (E) = Number of favourable outcomes / Total number of possible outcomes.

Possible outcomes

When we toss a coin then its possible outcomes are only head and tail.

  • (H, H)
  • (H, T)
  • (T, H)
  • (T, T)

Outcome and event

  • The term outcome refers to the random results of an experiment.
  • Like rolling a dice, and we get six. Then six is the rolling outcome.
  • The term event refers to the total set of the outcomes.
  • Like When we do the rolling of a dice then the probability of achieving a number is less than 5. Then it is considered as an event.

Impossible event

  • The event in which there are no chances of occurring.
  • Like (P) = 0.
