Learn Class 10 Math - Real Numbers

Real numbers are the complete set of rational or irrational numbers. The real numbers are denoted by R.

Every rational & irrational number is a real number. Natural numbers, whole numbers, and integers are other parts of the number system.

Rational number

  • Rational numbers are such numbers that can be presented in the p/q form.
  • In the rational number form q is not equal to zero.
  • The representation symbol of a rational number is Q.
  • In two rational numbers, there are infinite rational numbers.
  • All integers are rational numbers.
  • But all rational numbers are not integers.

Natural number

  • The number starts from 1 and moves on to infinite numbers.
  • The natural numbers are presented by N.

Whole number

  • The number starts from 0, 1, 2, and moves on.
  • The whole numbers are presented by W.

Integers

  • The integers are the complete set of positive and negative numbers.
  • The integers are represented by Z.

Prime number

  • The number can be divided by one and by itself.
  • There are two factors of prime numbers.
  • And 1 is not a prime number.

Real Numbers Sample Questions for Class 10

Question 1

A student took 60 minutes to answer a combination of 20 multiple choice and extended-response questions. She took 2 minutes to answer each multiple choice and 6 minutes to answer each extended response. How many extended response questions were on the test?
A. 15
B. 5
C. 10
D. None of the above

Question 2

A translation is best described as
A. sliding.
B. flipping.
C. spinning.
D. warping.

Question 3

If f(x)=7-2x, find f(3)+6.
A. 11
B. 7
C. 14
D. -11

Question 4

Colin has been asked to create a mathematical model of the penguin population on a remote island. He wants to be able to predict the growth of the penguin colony. He decides that important variables and quantities to consider in the model include: availability of food, presence of predators, the current number of penguins, and the historic growth rate of penguin population. Is Colin's list correct? Why or why not?
A. Yes, this is the correct model, and there are no more important factors to consider.
B. No, this model leaves out many important variables, such as climate, water currents, diseases, and many more.
C. No, only the current number of penguins and the historic rate of population growth are important. All the other factors are simply over-complicating the problem.
D. Neither correct nor incorrect. Any real world problem can be modeled in multiple ways and with varying degrees of complexity.

Question 5

Select a counterexample to show that the the statement, "the product of two positive numbers is greater than either number" is false.
A. 4 and 6
B. 2 and 4
C. 1/4 and 1/2
D. 1/2 and 1
