Learn Class 1 English - Pronouns

Pronouns and nouns are both similar, but repeated nouns can make the sentence irrelevant in some of the sentences.

In short, the pronoun is a word that can replace the repetitive use of nouns. Every class 1 student should understand the correct use of pronouns as even a single mistake can make the sentence irrelevant.

What is a Pronoun?

A pronoun is the word that can replace the nouns in the sentence, e.g., he, she, it, they.

The pronoun use is essential to add value to the sentence and eliminate the repetitive use of the word (noun) in a sentence.

Let us understand the use of the pronoun in the sentence with the help of an example.

  • I took the bike to the mechanic because the bike requires fixing. (Here, bike (noun) is the repetitive word in the sentence that is a pronoun, i.e., "it can replace".

It can be written as: I took the bike to the mechanic because it requires fixing.

  • Rahul wanted chips, so Rahul visited the store to buy the chips.

Here we have used Rahul two times. Doesn't it sound strange?

Sometimes we don’t want to use the same noun repeatedly in a sentence.

That is why using the pronoun can make the sentence engaging and appealing for the readers.

Types of Pronouns

There are seven types of the pronoun we learn in English, i.e., Personal pronoun, interrogative pronoun, relative pronoun, reflexive pronoun, indefinite pronoun, demonstrative pronoun, and intensive pronoun which students learn in their higher classes.

You will get familiar with all of them in higher classes.
