Learn Class 9 Science - Motion

The term motion refers to the state of rest when it changes its state concerning surroundings and time. Different types of motion are available, like linear motion, vibratory motion, scalar motion, and many more.

Distance

  • The term distance refers to the present length of the object that it covers by travelling the journey from the starting point to the last position.
  • The distance is always considered as the scalar quantity.
  • The measurement of the distance is always done with the help of odometers.
  • If there is the shortest distance between the two points, it is known as the straight line.

Magnitude

  • The term magnitude is the size of the extent of physical activity.
  • Like in physics, there are vector and scalar quantities.
  • The scalar quantities are always expressed in magnitude, like mass, distance, temperature, etc.
  • The vector quantities are always expressed in terms,i.e., magnitude and direction like Displacement, weight, momentum, force, and acceleration.

Velocity

  • The term velocity refers to the change in the Displacement.
  • Velocity = Displacement / Time.

Time & Speed

  • The major term time is the event duration measured in seconds or minutes.
  • The term speed is the distance rate of change.
  • Average velocity = u + v / 2 ,i.e., u = initial velocity and v = final velocity.
