Learn Class 9 Math - Surface Areas and Volumes

The surface areas and volumes are always considered for the 2D and 3D figures. The area is known as the inner part of a figure. At the same time, the volume is known as the exact quantity present in the figure.

Different types of Shapes

There are unique shapes in geometry, such as cuboids, cubes, cones, spheres, etc. All these figures consist of different volumes and areas.

The 2-D figures do not consist of any volume as they only consist of the areas. And the area is also divided into two parts, i.e., curved surface area and total surface area.

Formulas for figures

1. Circle

  • The area of the circle is π r ^ 2.
  • The circumference of the circle is 2 π r.

2. Square

  • The area of the square is a^2.
  • The perimeter of the square is 4a.

3. Rectangle

  • The rectangular figure area is lb.
  • The perimeter of the figure is 2 (l+b).

4. Cube

  • The cube area is 6a^2.
  • The perimeter of the cube is 6a.
  • The curved surface area of the cube is 4a^2.
  • And the cube volume is a^3.

5. Cylinder

  • The area of the cylinder is 2π r (r + h).
  • The cylinder's curved surface area is 2 πrh.
  • The volume of the cylinder is π r ^2 h.
