Learn Class 9 Math - Coordinate Geometry

The coordinate geometry means to get the solution by using the algebraic methods. Two lines are present in the graph,i.e., vertical and horizontal. These two lines help in representing the x-axis and y-axis. The X-axis is presented on the horizontal line, whereas the Y-axis is presented vertically. There is a point O on which both lines will intersect.

Quadrants

In the pair of graphs, there are a total of 4 quadrants present. The details of these four quadrants are discussed here below:

  • In the presence of the first quadrant, both x and y coordinates are positive.
  • The x coordinate is negative in the second quadrant, whereas the y coordinate is positive.
  • In the presence of the third quadrant, both x and y coordinates are negative.
  • In the fourth quadrant, we see that the x coordinate is positive, whereas the y coordinate is negative.

Formula

  • The formula for the coordinate geometry is always presented in the form of x and y.
  • The specific formula of the geometry is
  • The midpoint formula is always represented by x1, y1, and x2, y2.
  • The slope of the given line is m and is presented by the formula m = -a / b.
