The term integer is a wide concept that includes various things, including the natural number and whole number.
Natural numbers are numbers that start from 1 and move on. In comparison, the whole numbers are the set of numbers that start from 0 and move on.
Properties of integers
The integer consists of various properties, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
1. The property of addition
- The commutative property of addition is a + b = b + a.
- The associative property of addition consists of three integers,i.e., (a + b) + c = a + (b + c).
2. The property of multiplication
- The commutative property related to multiplication is a x b = b x a.
- The multiplicative identity is a x 1 = 1 x a = a. This one is known as the multiplicative integer.
- The multiplication by 0 always results in 0.
3. The property of division:
- The property of division includes dividing the different sets of numbers,i.e., positive and negative numbers.
- When a positive number gets divided by a positive number, the result will always come in a positive number.
- When a negative number gets divided by a negative number, the result will always be a positive number.
- And when a positive number gets divided by a negative number, the result will come in a negative number.
